What fonts are used in social media logos?

The one unique aspect about every social media network is the fonts used in their logos. Most people don’t even realize it, but social logo font helps create the branded image of the network in their heads.

For example, when you think about YouTube, you can’t help but see their logo with the red oval background and the word “Tube” over it. Then to the left of it, you have the “You” word spelt out in black letters with the font Alternative Gothic No. 2. It is a simple looking font, but the red background puts more emphasis on the font and helps people remember the logo as a whole. The Skype logo is another example of colored backgrounds that make simple looking font stand out. The logo has the word “Skype” spelt out in Helvetica Rounded Bold with a wavy blue border surrounding it. People see the blue border color and white text color in their minds when they think of Skype because the mixture of colors creates a unique image that stands out. Not only that, but it makes the font feel more unique to their company and people associate the font with the company. Even Facebook uses a simple Klavika font with a blue square background and people remember it. The examples of other social logo fonts just go on and on.

Some of the newer social media websites have taken a different approach to the solid background colors in their logos. Instagram is a good example of this. They use the Billabong font, which looks cursive and has no background color. But what it does have is an image of a square camera next to their “Instagram” name. Normally this would be a risky move to make because adding a picture to the side of a name can be too much for a logo sometimes. However, the camera picture in the logo is small and clearly illustrates to people that it is a social networking site which deals exclusively with picture sharing. So if you ever create a logo for a website that has an exclusive feature like this then you might want to think about adding a picture that emphasizes this feature in your logo.
